Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.

Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.

In a large mixer bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (5 minutes).

Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.

Add flour mixture alternating with milk, starting and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.

Bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Beat butter for frosting until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cream until fluffy. Tint with gel color.

Apply a crumb coat to the cooled cake, chill for 20 minutes, then apply the final layer and decorations.
