Key Ingredients

When it comes to selecting the perfect ingredients for this recipe, there are a few key factors to keep in mind. First, choose a high-quality sausage that’s flavorful and juicy. We recommend using a classic pork sausage or a more adventurous option like chorizo or applewood-smoked sausage. For the pastry, you’ll want to use a pre-made croissant dough that’s flaky and buttery. 4 Servings

Ingredients

1 (8 oz) package of croissant dough, thawed

4 sausage links (pork or chorizo), casings removed

1/4 cup of unsalted butter, softened

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh parsley or thyme, chopped (optional)

Directions

1
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

2
Roll out the croissant dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Cut into 4 equal pieces.

3
Place a sausage link in the center of each piece of dough. Brush the edges with the beaten egg for a golden glaze.

4
Fold the dough over the sausage, pressing the edges to seal. Use a knife or pastry brush to create a decorative edge.

5
Place the pigs in a blanket on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each. Brush with the softened butter and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Storage & Reheating

To store leftovers, allow the pigs in a blanket to cool completely on a wire rack. Then, place them in an airtight container or plastic bag and refrigerate for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months. To reheat, bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.
